Between the Heart and Mind… There is Tulum

February 21 - 27, 2018

In a writing class, we learn as we create fictional characters that human beings are really only motivated by two things: Fear and/or desire. In other words: we are either chasing the carrot or the carrot is chasing us. But what if there were another option? Who would we be without the fear? Without the desire? Who would we be if we were free? Join Julie Nogueira and Sasha Brown-Worsham on this journey into your middle place.

Our yoga retreat will take you to the beautiful beach at Amansala where the sea, moon, and sun will conspire to help strip away the old. Whole, nutritious meals will take the work out of your day and two daily yoga classes will remind you, through moving meditation, that your only job is to breathe. And to be. Yoga is union. A place of breath and mind and gaze. Every pose is an opportunity to move without fear. Without desire. Our retreat package includes:

  • 6 nights, 7 days at Amansala
  • 3 whole foods meals a day (with the exception of one off-site dinner)
  • 2 yoga classes a day, sunrise meditations, beach walks and journaling workshops
  • Group sound healing ceremony
  • Access to resort spa
  • Access to optional excursions, including tours of local mayan ruins, snorkeling, and kayaking

Join us and discover who you are when the only motivation is life. Between the heart and mind… there is Tulum.

ABOUT JULIE NOGUEIRA Julie is a mom of three boys who keep her on her toes (and sometimes drop things on them). Her consistent yoga practice helps her stay physically strong and mentally balanced. Julie took her first class in 2000 as an admittedly cocky dancer and former gymnast who was certain she would master the practice of yoga in no time. Clearly the joke was on her. Not only was the practice far more challenging than she anticipated, Julie eventually learned that no one – regardless of how flexible, strong and determined they are – “masters” yoga. The nature of the practice is, after all, about the journey and not one’s ability to do a perfect split. Today Julie is a 200-hour certified teacher who is registered with Yoga Alliance. She leads invigorating vinyasa flow classes in Annapolis, Maryland, incorporating anatomical precision, mindfulness, and her incontrovertible sense of humor. Julie has led yoga retreats in Arizona and Napa Valley and is thrilled to co-lead “Between the heart and the mind… there is Tulum” in February 2018 with fellow instructor Sasha Brown-Worsham. Retreat goers will explore what motivates them – whether it’s fear, desire, or an unquenchable thirst for adventure. Together we’ll further that exploration through yoga, mediation, journaling… and margaritas! There’s no better place to dive deep than at the gorgeous beachfront Amansala Eco-Chic Resort in Tulum, Mexico.

ABOUT SASHA BROWN-WORSHAM Sasha grew up spending her summers at Kripalu in the Berkshires and doing yoga with her mother, a certified Kripalu yoga teacher. The practice has informed every part of her life, from recovery after running multiple marathons to staying active through all three of her pregnancies (and helping during labor!). After years of writing and editing for various magazines and women’s websites, she finally decided to get her yoga teaching certificate with Sarah Marsh of Flor Yoga in Jersey City. She is a 200 RYT with the Yoga Alliance and has an additional 100 hour certification in prenatal yoga and 200 hours in Ashtanga through Lifetime Athletic. She teaches Ashtanga, vinyasa, yin, and prenatal and has led workshops for athletes and beginners. Her classes are high energy flows that will wake you up and get the blood pumping with unique (and varied!) playlists. Expect Simon and Garfunkel, the Chainsmokers, and everything in between. And don’t discount the dharma. Yoga is a confrontation of our discomfort and all Sasha’s classes play into that concept with moments of extreme effort that (hopefully!) balance with moments of serenity. Sasha believes the world would be a better place is everyone practiced yoga in the way that best suited them. She brings that unique spirit to her classes and wants every student to walk away feeling better than they did when they walked in the door.
